LUCKNOW: The first written examination for the preliminary eligibility test (PET)2021 for group C posts will be conducted by UP Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSC) on August 20.
The exam will be held in two shifts in which over 20.7 lakh applicants will appear.
The PET system of examination was approved in November 2020 but the tests had to be postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19. The test scores would be valid for one year, said UPSSSC chairperson Pravir Kumar.
“The recruitment process has become a two-phase system. Instead of holding a main examination each time vacant posts are advertised, UPSSSC will now hold a preliminary eligibility test. Candidates will be given percentile scores based on their performance. This will be a general exam with a common syllabus. Based on the scores, candidates will be selected to appear for main exams as and when posts are advertised,” he said.
The results of this exam are likely to be declared by September and main exams for vacancies in various departments will start from October. Officials estimate that at least 25,000 recruitments to government posts may fall vacant by the year-end. As per rules, for one post advertised by any department, the first 15 candidates who have qualified PET will be allowed to appear for the mains. The scores will be valid for all vacancies that are advertised in one year from the time of announcement of results.
The process, Kumar explained, would significantly expedite the recruitment process.
