BAHRAICH: The carcass of a female leopard was found in Mahbubnagar village of Kakraha Range under Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary in Bahraich on Tuesday. Injury marks were found on the face and neck of the dead big cat.
The village is adjacent to the forest. After receiving news about the carcass, forest personnel reached the spot and brought it to the range office.
As per the postmortem performed by Dr Dayashankar, a conflict with another big cat could be the reason for the death of this leopard, said to be 12 to 18 months of age.
Divisional Forest Officer, Akashdeep Badawan, said that the forest department team was continuously monitoring the spot and the villagers had been instructed to be alert.
Forest officer Ram Kumar said that residents of Bichpari village saw the carcass near the farm of one Virendra Verma on Tuesday morning. Based on its footprints, it appears that the leopards would often visit the village.
