Uttar Pradesh elections: Two ex-CMs vote, predict grand win of their parties

LUCKNOW: Union defence minister Rajnath Singh cast his vote on Wednesday and said the BJP would form the next government with a thumping majority. On the other hand, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati too was hopeful that her party would win the polls.

Rajnath had arrived in Lucknow on Tuesday night to cast his vote along with his family.

Exercising his franchise, he told reporters that the current election is being fought on the issue of good governance and development. If there is any party in India working on these aspects then it has only been the BJP, he claimed.

Urging people to come out and vote, the minister also added that BJP will not only be scripting history in UP, but will also win with a larger margin in comparison to last time. “Both the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party had claimed of forming a government in 2017 even before the results were declared, recalled the minister. In fact, it was the BJP which had formed the government after the results. The same feat will be achieved this time too,” said the Lucknow MP.

He said that based on performance, people have concluded that BJP is the party that works for their betterment.

Meanwhile, Mayawati, who was the first to cast her vote at the polling centre near Mall Avenue flyover, lambasted the SP for goonda raj. She said that people have witnessed the SP rule and know that it only gives pain and torture to people. Mayawati also recalled the Muzaffarnagar riots of 2013 during the SP reign to give an example of the lawlessness prevailing then. Mayawati said that she was hopeful of getting Dalit, Brahmin and MBC votes in her kitty to form the next government.
