UP elections: Swami Prasad Maurya resigns from Yogi cabinet, expected to join SP

In his resignation sent to BJP national president JP Nadda, Prajapati said that the gross ignorance of the state government towards members of backward caste, Dalits, Muslims and small traders has compelled him to take the decision. Prajapati, himself from the Potter sub-caste within the MBC bloc, said that he stood in solidarity with Maurya who is the "voice of the oppressed".

The 36-year-old law graduate was elected for the first time on a BJP ticket in 2017 assembly elections. He had also been a member of the state backward commission between 2010 and 2012.
