VARANASI: The Mirzapur police, on Thursday, seized a big drug shipment of 29.73 quintal ‘doda’ post worth over Rs 1.5 crore from a truck container in Ahraura area. The police also arrested one person with the contraband.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the Ahraura police team, led by Sanjay Kumar Singh intercepted a truck container (RJ 24 GA 0785) near Hanuman hill on Sonbhadra-Varanasi highway. The driver tried to flee from the scene, but the police succeeded in nabbing him after a short chase.
During interrogation, the arrested person was identified as Buddharam Vishnoi, resident of Jodhpur district of Rajasthan.
The police recovered 29 quintal 73 kg and 200 gm illegal doda post from the container.
He was carrying the contraband from Ranchi (Jharkhand) to Naukha (Rajasthan).
The arrested person was booked under NDPS Act and sent to jail. A cash prize of Rs 20,000 was announced to the police team for this achievement.
