Uttar Pradesh council polls clock more than 98% turnout

LUCKNOW: Over 98% turnout was recorded in the legislative council polls held on Saturday. An average of 98.11% polling was recorded in the UP legislative council biennial polls for 27 seats with Gorakhpur-Maharajganj constituency registering the lowest turnout of 96.50% and Rae Bareli clocking the highest with 99.35% polling, as per Election Commission of India. Ninety-five candidates were in the fray and polling was held at 739 centres, where 1.20 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who turned up early to vote, said “after four decades, a ruling party (BJP) will be able to bag a huge mandate in the legislative council too”.
