LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday ordered the dismissal of a deputy superintendent of police, who was suspended last year on charges of rape.
The Twitter handle of the UP Chief Minister announced the dismissal of the officer.
A senior officer in the home department said that Navneet Nayak, a 2014 batch provincial police services (PPS) officer, was suspended on June 28, 2021, after a woman had accused him of rape during his posting as the circle officer of Patti, Pratapgarh, in 2019.
Nayak was last posted in Shahjahanpur before being attached to the DGP headquarters recently.
The woman had alleged that Nayak raped and threatened her during his stint as circle officer in 2019. An FIR was lodged against Nayak on July 7, 2021 on charges of rape and kidnapping and a probe was ordered against him.
On the basis of the probe report, Nayak was suspended and attached to the DGP headquarters.
Earlier on April 8, another cop, Kripa Shanker Kannaujia, who was accused of indiscipline during his tenure as deputy superintendent of police in Bighapur circle of Unnao last year, was demoted to the post of sub-inspector. Kannaujiya was found in a hotel room with a woman.
Similarly, on March 31, the then SSP Ghaziabad Pawan Kumar was taken to task for dereliction of duty and for being unable to control crime. Complaints were lodged against the officer by elected representatives.
