Uttar Pradesh‘Centre not serious about Dalit welfare’, says BSP chief Mayawati

LUCKNOW: Even as she makes an aggressive Brahmin outreach, BSP chief Mayawati on Friday made a concerted bid to consolidate the Dalit vote bank by slamming the Centre and UP government for not filling backlog posts meant for SC/STs and OBCs.

The former UP CM said that it was unfortunate that her party’s demand to fill the posts in the government has fallen on deaf ears.

“This shows that the Centre and the BJP government in other states are not serious about the welfare of Dalits,” she said in a tweet.

Experts said that Mayawati was likely to amplify her Dalit consolidation bid to arrest the chances of a possible resentment among her core Dalit cadre. Mayawati also categorically termed the Centre’s step to provide reservation to OBC in medical colleges as a delayed action driven by political compulsion.
