LUCKNOW: Sleuths of CBI Lucknow unit on Sunday morning apprehend station house officer (SHO) of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Barabanki Railway Station and his junior subordinate, a head constable (HC) for allegedly taking bribe.

The arresting came following an FIR lodged by a labour contractor with CBI alleging that RPF cops of Lucknow division northern railway were demanding money, so that he could work without the fear of being framed in false FIR or banned from working for railway freight service.

The complainant was identified as Gufran Ahmad, a resident of Barabanki, who is labour contractor for railway and his firm primarily works to load and unload fertilizer, cement and other goods from freight train.

The apprehended accused were identified as SHO Akhilesh Yadav and head constable Ashutosh Tripathi. Both the accused were booked under section seven of prevention of corruption. Both of them were brought to Lucknow for interrogation.

According to the FIR copy, "Inspector Akhilesh Yadav and HC Ashutosh Tripathi were demanding Rs 3,000 to allow unloading of entire rake (train) and Rs 1,500 for half rake. Further, officer Yadav demanded Rs 500 additional for per rake. In the month of November, 23 rakes including four half rakes were unloaded for which cops were demanding Rs 63,000."

"They threatened to frame me in false FIR or banned from working for railway freight service if the amount is not paid," read the FIR by Gufran.

TOI attempted to speak with the complainant Gufran, but he refused.

The FIR further read that, the allegation was discreetly verified by sub-inspector Avinash Gupta of CBI.

Speaking to TOI, senior commandant of RPF Lucknow division NR, Abhishek Kumar said, "The accused cops have been arrested by CBI. They were caught red handed for taking bribe."
