LUCKNOW: A toddler suffered burn injuries during an anti-encroachment drive at Charbagh railway station on Saturday.
The baby suffered injuries after a railway protection force (RPF) sub-inspector kicked a pressure cooker kept on stove, following which a hot pulse spilled over the victim.
Video of the incident was circulated over social media.
The incident took place on Saturday near a railway toilet, where the improvised family of the victim reside under makeshift arrangement.
Victim was identified as Raju alias Raj. His right arm suffered burn injuries.
The victim's mother, Rekha alias Anju, said, “Two cops, including a sub-inspector, without any provocation or warning started throwing our household stuff. The SI kicked the pressure cooker in which pulse (dal) was kept over the stove. Cops unruly action left my son injured with serious burn injuries, as the hot pulse spilled over his body.”
The victim’s family are rag-pickers, who are often called by railway authorities to pick up dead bodies from railway tracks and are paid for the service.
Mukesh Kumar, SHO RPF, Charbagh said, “An anti-encroachment drive was conducted, but allegations of SI kicking a pressure cooker which led to burn injury of a toddler is untrue.”
Responding to TOI query, divisional railway manager of Lucknow division, Sanjay Tripathi said, "We have ordered an enquiry into the incident by a lady officer- those found responsible will not be spared."
