Uttar Pradesh: AMU student stabs fellow student outside university library, suspended

AGRA: An 18-year-old student preparing for his NEET exams was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by his fellow Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student outside the Maulana Azad library on Sunday evening after the former had asked him to remain quiet inside the reading hall and refrain from misbehaving with a girl.

Suhail Hanif was attacked by a BSc student of the varsity, Mohd Anwar Khan, a resident of Firozabad, who has been suspended by the university, said proctor Prof Wasim Ali. An FIR has been registered against the suspended student under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) at the civil lines police station.

The Proctor told TOI that some students took Hanif to the hospital as he was serious and was bleeding profusely. He sustained multiple grievous injuries on various parts of his body, but he is now out of danger.

"Prima facie it is established that the suspended student has committed grave criminal acts, which amount to indiscipline and misconduct as provided under Students' conduct and discipline rule, 1985," the office memo stated, adding that the university campus and its maintained institutions are also placed out of bounds for the accused student.

Haneef has recently completed his Class 12 exams from AMU school and is the son of a varsity employee, who works as an electrician-cum-tubewell operator in JN Medical College.
