Uttar Pradesh: 7 killed, 2 injured in wall, roof collapse incidents in Sitapur

LUCKNOW: As many as seven people were killed and two others injured in three separate incidents of wall and roof collapse following incessant rains in Sitapur district, located barely 50km from Lucknow.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the loss of lives in the incidents and directed the officials to reach the spot to provide help to the victims.

In the first incident reported from Laksminpur village, four people, identified as Lalli Devi (50), Shailendra (10), Shiva (8) and Neeraj (2), belonging to the same family, died when a wall and a tin shed collapsed on them due to rainfall.

In the second incident reported from Nankari village, Ram Lotan (42) and his wife Anita (38) died after a wall collapsed on them.

In the third incident, a 60-year-old man in Sadarpur police station area was killed after a thatched roof fell on him due to heavy rainfall.

"All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem," said superintendent of police, Sitapur.

The SSP also said that local police teams along with district administration conducted rescue operations and those injured have been admitted to a hospital.

"Units of SDRF and the PAC have also been pressed into services to carry out rescue and relief operations," added the SSP.

Sitapur district administration has also announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each of the deceased.
