Police said the incident took place at around 2.15am near Badhar chowk on Hathras-Agra Road when the yatris were returning from Haridwar to their home town in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior.

Five of them died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries during treatment in Agra’s SN Medical College and one is still under observation, said police.

Five of them were identified as Jabar Singh (28), Ranveer Singh (30), Manoj Pal (30), Ramesh Pal (30) and Naresh Pal (45) and the sixth person’s identity was yet to be ascertained. Their bodies have been sent for post mortem.

ADG (Agra zone) Rajeev Krishna said that a probe is under way into the accident.

“We have received the information about the driver and soon he will be nabbed,” he said, adding that a case has been registered.
