PRAYAGRAJ: Four passengers travelling by 11034 Darbhanga-Pune Gyan Ganga Express were hit by the passing Chambal Express at Shankargarh railway station, around 45 km away from the Prayagraj junction on Saturday. RPF sources said two passengers were run over by the train and died on the spot while the third succumbed on the way to hospital. The fourth injured passenger was referred to Prayagraj for further treatment. Several passengers could not bear the sight and broke down while the station master immediately informed the RPF and GRP about the incident. tnn

"As the Gyan Ganga Express was taken on the loop line adjacent to platform number 1 of Shankargarh railway station, many passengers had got down to refill their bottles from the tap on another platform. When they were returning, they were hit by Chambal Express which had been given a pass and was moving towards Manikpur. The loco pilot honked repeatedly, but these four passengers failed to take notice and were hit before they could cross over," said Public Relation Officer (PRO), Prayagraj division, Amit Kumar Singh.

Singh further informed that those who died on the spot included

Vikas Paswan (22) and Deepak (24) were run over and died on the spot while Munnu Shah (27) succumbed on the way to hospital. Vikas Prajapati (20) was referred to Prayagraj for advanced treatment after being administered initial treatment.

Senior RPF officials, including RPF Assistant Security Commissioner PK Agnihotri, Inspector, Naini, Avinash Shankar, Sub-Inspector Satyas Yadav and GRP outpost in-charge Suresh Chandra Yadav reached the spot and rushed the seriously injured Munnu Shah and Vikas Prajapati to the nearby hospital.

The doctors declared Munnu Shah dead and referred Vikas Prajapati to Prayagraj after giving him first aid since his condition was critical. The three bodies were taken by RPF and sent for post-mortem. The four passengers were from Bihar and were on their way to Pune for work.
