LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday seized properties worth Rs 3 crore belonging to two liquor mafias in Rae Bareli and Jaunpur districts.
SP, Rae Bareli, Shlok Kumar said the properties of Aman Jaiswal and Komal Jaiswal, who had 12 criminal cases against them, had been confiscated.
In Jaunpur, property worth Rs 1 crore belonging to mafia Suraj Singh was seized. He has at least five cases against him.
A senior police officer said the properties were acquired through criminals activities. A case was registered against the three mafias under the Gangsters Act after which their properties were confiscated.
Meanwhile, 58 police personnel have been suspended so far for laxity leading to sale of spurious liquor which resulted in deaths. NSA was also imposed against 19.
As many as 197 people have lost their lives to hooch in the last one year.
