Uttar Pradesh: 1,200 killed in 2,200 road accidents in Prayagraj range from Jan 1 to Nov 15

PRAYAGRAJ: As many as 1,228 people have died in 2,258 road accidents between January 1 and November 15 this year in the four districts of Prayagraj range.

While over-speeding, rash driving and ignorance towards traffic norms were the main reasons behind the accidents, the educational and awareness campaigns run by the traffic police have also turned out to be a flop show in arresting the graph of road accidents.

Ironically, the Sangam city has once again topped the chart of road accidents in terms of fatal and non-fatal category accidents. Prayagraj recorded a total of 993 cases of road mishaps between January 1 and November 15, followed by Fatehpur 536, Pratapgarh 416 and Kaushambi 313.

Statistics revealed by Prayagraj range police on Monday claimed that a total of 1,228 persons, including 452 in Prayagraj, 241 in Pratapgarh, 359 in Fatehpur and 176 in Kaushambi, lost their lives between January 1 and November 15.

In the same period, 1,349 persons were also injured: Prayagraj 642, Pratapgarh 252, Fatehpur 297 and Kaushambi 158.

In Prayagraj district, a total of 993 cases of road accidents were recorded between January 1 and November 15, including January (101), February (95), March (112), April (74), May (93) , June (98), July (89), August (92), September (85), October (100) and November ( 54).

Moreover, while January recorded 49 deaths in Prayagraj, other months like February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November recorded 45, 45, 40, 49, 43, 47, 35, 43, 41 and 15 deaths, respectively.

In Kaushambi district, a total of 313 cases of road mishaps were recorded between January 1 and November 15 including January (23), February (26), March (37), April (25), May (38) , June ( 29), July ( 36), August (25), September (27), October (30) and November (17).While January recorded 15 deaths, 17, 14, 17, 23, 19, 13, 14, 15, 20 and 9 deaths were reported in February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November, respectively.

In Pratapgarh district, a total of 416 cases of road mishaps were recorded, including January (45), February ( 36), March ( 31), April (34), May (44), June (42), July ( 30), August (44), September (39), October (41) and November (30), respectively.

While January recorded 26 deaths, 21, 19, 25, 30, 21, 15, 29, 24, 18 and 13 people lost their lives in February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November, respectively.

In Fatehpur district, a total of 536 cases of road mishaps were recorded between January 1 and November 15, including January (48), February (29), March (60), April (47), May ( 59) , June (62), July (53), August ( 48), September (37), October ( 57) and November ( 36). While January claimed 35 lives, other months like February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October and November claimed 25, 36, 25, 46, 43, 34, 39, 21, 30 and 25 lives,respectively.

A senior police officer said, “We are taking up a series of road safety programmes to educate the people on the issue and minimise accidents in all four districts of the range. He, however, said commutes must follow traffic rules and regulations to check the graph of road mishaps.

Traffic cops of all four districts have also been asked to chalk out more concrete plans to check fatal and non-fatal cases, he added.
