What’s Going To Happen
UTSA needs to figure out how to get its offense going right away.
Challenged over the last few years at getting the attack going, this is the week to do it against an Incarnate Word team that started out last year allowing 62 points to New Mexico and 58 to North Texas, but got a whole lot stronger as the season went on.
The Cardinals get back eight starters on an offense that cranked up one of the best passing games in the FCS, averaging 323 yards per game with their Air Raid style of attack. Head coach Eric Morris – the former Texas Tech receiver – is about to push the Roadrunners hard and make them open up the offense, but …
UTSA returns everyone in the secondary.
The Roadrunner offense – the second-worst in college football last season in total yards – should be a bit more potent right away. New starting quarterback Frank Harris held off a few other strong contenders for the gig, and he’ll have a strong day against a leaky UIW secondary.
Don’t expect fireworks, but UTSA will get by on third down stops and just enough of an offensive attack to survive. But it’ll be a dogfight.
