Uthaithiah Town Inaugurates One of the Largest Forests in Riyadh

Planting trees and combating desertification are a national project (Asharq Al-Awsat)

The town of Uthaithiah launched one of Saudi Arabia’s biggest environmental initiatives, planting 150 thousand trees on World Soil Day.

The initiative is an extension of the project to plant 10 million trees across Saudi Arabia as part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. To arrive at sustainable natural habitats and to tackle desertification, the project was built on an area estimated to be 18 million meters squared.

The Governor of Marat (part of the Riyadh region), Ahmed Al-Hamin, launched a project to plant 150,000 trees in Rawda (Aba Samri, 170 kilometers west of Riyadh), as part of the forestation project Let’s Make It Green, which was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and the initiative is located in the desert of Uthaithiah town in Marat governorate.

Upon completion, the initiative will be one of Riyadh's largest recreational reserves, and the Abi Samara Forest will be among the largest forests in Saudi Arabia. It garnered attention from government agencies, the private sector, and green associations. The Dekla Green Association, a Cooperative Association for Yusr and Desert Plants affiliate, contributed to forestation efforts.
