Ute owner used chainsaw to chase vandals with baseball bats, police say

The ute's side window and windscreen were smashed with baseball bats.

A man armed himself with a chainsaw to chase away two men who allegedly smashed the windows of his ute with baseball bats in Adelaide's west last night, police say.

Officers were called to Mersey Street at Taperoo about 9:30pm and found broken glass around the ute, which was carrying traffic equipment for road works, including stop signs.

One of the men accused of smashing the ute's windows received a cut to his hand, and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Police arrested the man who was allegedly carrying the chainsaw.

The 21-year-old from Taperoo was charged with aggravated assault and carrying an offensive weapon.

A 46-year-old from Largs North was also accused of carrying an offensive weapon and damaging property.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, and said the men involved are known to each other.

They will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court in April.
