Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois both look set for a potential career-best payday in their blockbuster heavyweight title rematch this evening.
Over 90,000 boxing fans are expected at Wembley Stadium tonight to witness the crowning of another undisputed king of the sport’s most high-profile division.
It is a title that the great and unbeaten Usyk has held already previously at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, forced to relinquish the IBF belt in between memorable points wins over arch-rival Tyson Fury, which later went to mandatory challenger Dubois and was successfully defended for the first time with a vicious knockout of Anthony Joshua in September.
Now Usyk hopes to claim back that lost IBF gold, reunite it with his WBA (Super), WBC, WBO, IBO and The Ring titles and make history as a three-time undisputed champion back in London, looking to move to 24-0 and further cement his legacy as one of the greatest fighters of not just this, but indeed any era.
For Dubois, it’s a chance to become Britain’s first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat all the way back in 1999, continuing his hugely impressive resurgence after he suffered his second professional career loss at the hands of Usyk in Poland two summers ago.
It was an evening of major controversy at Wroclaw’s Tarczynski Arena in August 2023, with Usyk securing two knockdowns en route to a ninth-round stoppage, but only after he had been floored in the fifth and given four minutes to recover from a powerful shot that was ruled a low blow by referee Luis Pabon.
Dubois and his team, including promoter Frank Warre,n have always maintained that they were robbed that night, with revenge now firmly on the mind in the headline act of a card that also includes the likes of Lawrence Okolie, Lewis Edmondson and Aadam Hamed.
How much will Usyk and Dubois be paid for fight?
As ever, the official fight purse and split has not been officially disclosed, but unsurprisingly both boxers are reportedly set to earn huge sums from this high-profile rematch for undoubtedly the sport’s most prestigious title - undisputed heavyweight champion.
Reports circulating in multiple outlets this week claim that Usyk and Dubois will share a total purse worth an enormous $203million (£176.2m).
Around $132.8m of that is expected to go to Usyk, per the Baltimore Chronicle, with $71.22m for Dubois.
Usyk is said to have earned approximately $159m from his two wins over Fury in Riyadh, while Dubois’ shock knockout of Joshua is believed to have netted him a guaranteed £3.5m that it was reported could rise to £10m with pay-per-view sales.
Usyk was rumoured to have received $6m for his first fight with Dubois in Poland, with the latter taking home around $2m.
