USS Lincoln sailor’s wife calls Trump’s comments ‘infuriating’

  • The wife of a sailor aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln criticized President Donald Trump over appalling conditions on the ship, describing it as a “floating metal prison,” during a CNN interview.
  • The aircraft carrier faces reports of food rationing, poor maintenance and mental health struggles among sailors after spending 266 days deployed in the Middle East .
  • Trump dismissed concerns from military families, claiming no one was worried about conditions on the vessel and that the deployment was not long enough.
  • Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao said sailors spent 266 days at sea “because the mission demanded it,” adding that meal plans were adjusted when fresh supplies were unavailable and calls to loved ones were limited when the operational threat was too high.
  • The USS Abraham Lincoln is set to return home soon as part of a planned rotation and will be replaced by the USS George Washington.
