USMNT star Christian Pulisic makes World Cup admission ahead of Chelsea vs Arsenal

Christian Pulisic will be one of the star names for the USMNT in Qatar when the action gets underway later this month, with the 24-year-old ready to lead his country into their first major tournament in eight years.

The winger has played a sporadic role with Chelsea so far this season so far under Graham Potter but will take on a crucial role for his national team as they travel to the Middle East later this month. Pulisic is part of a 'golden generation' of talent in the US but will face a tricky test in the tournament's 'group of death'.

Group B, with England, Wales and Iran joining the USA has the highest average ranking for teams across the competition and presents a difficult challenge for Pulisic and his teammates. They failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018 when Pulisic was 19 and this will be the first time at a major tournament for the majority of their squad.

Despite a huge task ahead of them and some games to face before then for Chelsea, Pulisic expressed his excitement at the chance to represent his country, saying that players are allowed to enjoy the build-up to what will be a huge moment in their respective careers.

Speaking after Chelsea's win against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night, he said: "Of course I'm excited, I think we're allowed to be excited for a World Cup but at the moment it's about what's going on here and we're just focusing on our results here and doing the best we can for our clubs."

Chelsea have three more games to play before the tournament begins, hosting Arsenal on Sunday before a midweek Carabao Cup trip to face Manchester City. Their final match before the World Cup will be an important one against top four rivals Newcastle United which Pulisic will be hoping sends him off to Qatar in good form ahead of a big month for the star.
