OSAKA -- Universal Studios Japan operator USJ LLC unveiled to the press Tuesday some of the attractions for the new Super Nintendo World area, which features popular Nintendo character Mario.

In the new area scheduled to open this summer at the amusement park in Konohana Ward, Osaka, visitors will be able to enjoy attractions themed on Mario Kart and dinosaur character Yoshi, among other rides.

At the press event, some of the tricks that will make visitors feel like they're entering the world of the game were demonstrated.

When visitors put on a wristband that syncs with a smartphone app, their score is recorded on their phone when they touch question blocks to get coins, just as in the Nintendo game.

There will be more than dozens of locations around the area where people can obtain coins, including question blocks. Visitors will be able to collect coins and compete against each other physically, creating an innovative experience reminiscent of the game.

With the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics approaching, the number of visitors to Japan is expected to increase. USJ Chief Executive Officer Jean Louis Bonnier said that they are pleased to be able to open the area in a year of global interest in Japan.
