Usher to showcase R&B icons in star-studded Super Bowl halftime

Usher confirmed there will be surprise R&B performers at the Super Bowl halftime show.

The highly anticipated Super Bowl LVIII is just around the corner, and fans are buzzing with excitement. While there are many questions surrounding the event, one that stands out is who Usher will bring out during his halftime show. As the headliner for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, Usher has been teasing fans with hints about surprise guests and a curated R&B experience.

In an interview with Vogue, Usher confirmed that the night would showcase R&B talent and pay tribute to the Black artists who paved the way for artists like him. He expressed his desire to honor those who had to overcome barriers, emphasizing that he wants to enter through the front door.

Usher's career spans three decades, during which he has collaborated with numerous stars. While it's unlikely that big names like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Diddy, Chris Brown, Future, Nicki Minaj, or Rick Ross will join him on stage due to various reasons, there are still plenty of possibilities.

One of the most anticipated moments during Usher's performance would be the revival of his hit song 'Yeah!' It would be incomplete without a cameo from Lil Jon and Ludacris, who were featured on the track. Their presence would undoubtedly energize the audience.

Another potential collaborator could be Alicia Keys, with whom Usher released the timeless R&B duet 'My Boo.' Their chemistry and soulful voices would create a magical moment during the halftime show.

To pay tribute to Usher's beginnings and the people who played a vital role in his career, the option of having Boyz II Men on stage seems fitting. Since it was L.A. Reid of LaFace Records who discovered Usher after he impressed with a cover of Boyz II Men's 'End of the Road,' this collaboration would honor their origins.

Smokey Robinson, an icon in the R&B world, could also join Usher to celebrate the genre's rich history. With his incredible vocals and extensive catalog of hits, Smokey Robinson's presence would add a touch of elegance and class to the halftime show.

A highly anticipated reunion could also take place between Brandy and Monica. After their successful Verzuz battle in 2020, where they showcased their iconic 1998 hit 'The Boy is Mine,' fans would love to see them recreate that magic on the Super Bowl stage.

Although it may be a longshot given Usher's focus on R&B's past, a surprise appearance from Justin Bieber would symbolize a full-circle moment. As the label that gave Bieber his big break, Usher's Raymond-Braun Media Group played a crucial role in shaping his career. Collaborating on songs like 'First Dance' and 'Somebody to Love,' this reunion would be a special moment for both artists.

While there's no confirmation about who Usher will bring out during his halftime show, the possibilities are exciting to think about. With his commitment to showcasing R&B talent and paying homage to the artists who laid the foundation, the Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show promises to be an unforgettable celebration of music and entertainment.
