Users around the world report Gmail is down

It is one of the most trusted and well-used email services for millions of people around the world, but it appears that Gmail has crashed this morning.

According to Down Detector, the issues started at around 07:24 BST, and are affecting users around the world, the Mirror reports.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported issues, 42 per cent said they were having problems with attachments, 30 per cent couldn't log-in, and 26 per cent couldn't receive messages, according to a dashboard of issues.

Google, which runs gmail, has been contacted for comment on the issues, but has been responding to individual users reporting problems.

In response to users, the company replied: "Hi there. Thanks for reporting. We are aware of a service disruption at the moment. Keep an eye out for the latest updates here: http://goo.gl/0czHIR."

In an update on its website to customers, Google said: "We are continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 8/20/20, 9:09 AM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem."
