Use white wine vinegar to keep towels fresh says cleaning expert

Washing your towels with vinegar instead of fabric softener can keep them feeling their best for longer, according to cleaning expert.

Lynsey Crombie - aka the Queen of Clean - said the cheap trick can keep your towels soft, fluffy and fresh.

The cleaning expert issued the advice in her “Cleaning Tips Tuesday” post, reports The Express.

She wrote to her many followers: “Nothing beats the comfort of wrapping yourself up in a soft, fresh, fluffy towel after a relaxing bath.

However, some followers were quick to question and wanted to know more.

“How much white vinegar would you suggest to use please?” one fan asked.

Lynsey said: “Same amount you would fabric conditioner.”

Some questioned whether the towels would smell of vinegar, but the cleaning expert said they would not.

One follower wrote: “Over 30 years ago I was a buyer for a west end linen store and I used to recommend not to use fabric conditioner even back then but didn’t know about the white vinegar so thank you for that tip!”

One said: “I've started using vinegar in my wash and pure liquid soap too.

"Having reached menopause I seem to now have an allergy to commercial washing powder which brings me out in hives. Oh, the joys.”

The cleaning guru also shared some other towel cleaning tips.

First and foremost, Lynsey recommended always reading the care label on your towels to make sure you are washing to accordingly.

The expert also advises that you wash your towels together and do not overload your washing machine.

She suggested that towels should be washed after every couple of uses, adding “towels pick up bacteria very quickly and can start to smell.”

Whether or not to tumble dry towels was also a hot topic.

In the comments, Lynsey revealed she doesn’t tumble dry her towels either, besides in winter.

One follower wrote: “Do you always tumble dry yours? Mine end up feeling like cardboard.”

Lynsey responded: “Only in the winter months the rest of the time I pop them on the washing line.

Lynsey also recently shared her six key daily tasks to stay on top of your cleaning.

The cleaning guru said: "Do you want to keep on top of your housework? Yes.

"Then make sure you do these simple six tasks a day."

Lynsey Crombie's six daily cleaning chores
