'Use the force': Liam Gallagher's words of wisdom for Anthony Joshua following shock defeat

Liam Gallagher had a few words of wisdom for boxer Anthony Joshua following his shock defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr, in which he lost all three of his heavyweight titles.

The ex-Oasis frontman took to Twitter to offer the 29-year-old a little support following the crushing loss.

"Listen up AJ, if I can make a comeback so can you use the force LG x," he posted.

Joshua was previously undefeated. He was fighting for the first time in the United States, at Madison Square Gardens.

He lost his IBF, WBA and WBO titles in one of the biggest shocks in modern boxing.

Joshua was knocked down four times before the referee brought the contest to an end in the seventh round.

The heavyweight star posted: "He's a champion for now, I will return."

He said the loss was a 'minor setback', insisting he will 'adjust and bounce back'.

There will be a contractual rematch in November or December in England, in which Joshua will have the chance to get his belts back.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that match is a 'must win' for the Englishman. Joshua's options for future fights would be limited if he is beaten by Ruiz a second time.

Hearn said Ruiz had pulled off a 'big upset in heavyweight history'.

Wythenshawe-born boxer Tyson Fury told Joshua: "We have our back and forths, but @anthonyfjoshua changed his stars through life.

"Heavyweight boxing, these things happen, rest up, recover, regroup and come again."

Humble in defeat, Joshua posted a picture of himself with Ruiz with the caption: "This is Andy's night, congratulations champ.
