USC’s Caleb Williams is the clear Heisman favorite as C.J. Stroud’s odds plummet after loss to Michigan

Update: November 26, 2022 5:21 pm ET: The Heisman Trophy is now Caleb Williams’ to lose.

The USC quarterback saw his odds skyrocket to -1500 at BetMGM as C.J. Stroud’s Ohio State Buckeyes were thrashed by Michigan to kickoff Saturday’s action. While Stroud passed for 349 yards and two touchdowns, he also threw two key interceptions late in the game that helped the Wolverines seal the win.

Stroud’s inability to take advantage of the stage—at home, no less—dropped his odds to +3000 at BetMGM, by far his longest of the year. The Buckeyes star is now third behind TCU’s Max Duggan (+700).

In the eyes of oddsmakers, that leaves Williams all alone at the top. With USC still to face Notre Dame on Saturday evening, the Heisman race surely isn’t over, but it’s getting close to the finish line.

Original, November 26, 2022 12:42 pm ET: Pretty much all season long, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has been the favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy.

Despite the Buckeyes’ weak schedule — and buoyed by a wideout corps that rivals any in college football — Stroud has routinely done enough to keep his name above the other contenders on the list.

Ahead of the final regular season Saturday of the season, that’s no longer the case.

According to oddsmakers at BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook, USC quarterback Caleb Williams has surged ahead of Stroud. It’s the first time this season Williams has been the odds-on favorite at the two books.

Here’s a look at the top-3 favorites leading up to kickoff on Saturday:

  • USC QB Caleb Williams (-115)
  • Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud (+100)
  • Michigan RB Blake Corum (+2500)

A big game from either Stroud or Corum — along with a win by their respective team in Saturday’s No. 3 Michigan at No. 2 Ohio State game — could catapult either into the driver’s seat.

But that could also just be temporary as No. 6 USC hosts No. 15 Notre Dame, giving Williams a chance to make the last statement.

Buckle up for an exciting end to a wild Heisman race.
