USC's Leonard Williams feels blessed to be selected sixth by Jets

May 01--USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams was selected by the New York Jets with the sixth overall pick in the NFL draft.

Williams, 6 feet 5 and 302 pounds, became the first USC player to be selected in the first round since offensive tackle Matt Kalil and defensive end Nick Perry were chosen fourth and 28th, respectively, in 2012.

After the pick, NFL Network reporter Deion Sanders asked Williams if he ever thought he would make it from Daytona Beach, Fla., to New York City. "I've always had high expectations for myself," Williams said.

Williams attended the draft with his mother and other family members.

"My family has always been there to support me during this journey, but I've never seen myself in this position and it's a blessing to be here and have my family here to support me," Williams said.

Williams was a three-year starter and two-time All-American for the Trojans.

As a sophomore in 2013, he recorded 13 1/2 tackles for losses, including six sacks.

Last season, Williams had 9 1/2 tackles for losses, including seven sacks.

Williams was one of four players who left USC before exhausting their eligibility.

Receiver Nelson Agholor, running back Javorius Allen and receiver George Farmer also made themselves available for the draft.
