Scientists have tracked down the owner of a working USB stuck found inside seal faeces.

New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research found the object while studying seal faeces last week.

Following its discovery, the organisation put out a search for its owner showing footage from the USB stick which included two sea lion pups on the country’s South Island.

On Wednesday, the organisation told its followers on social media that the owner had been found.

Amanda Nally said

By coincidence, the USB owner Amanda Nally, alerted the organisation of the seal’s whereabouts after discovering the thin looking creature on Oreti Beach.

She told a vet to send a sample of the seal’s faeces to the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research for analysis.

Following analysis, the USB was found.

According to the Guardian, seal faeces is valuable to scientists as it holds information on what they eat and how long they have been in New Zealand waters.

The seal was found to be in reasonable health.

Representatives from the organisation think that a bird eat Ms Nally’s USB stick. The animal is then thought to have been eaten by the seal.

Ms Nally told reporters that she doesn’t need the USB stick back as she had backed up the footage.

She added: “This is probably the weirdest set of coincidences in my life – ever.”
