USA win the Ryder Cup as Europe falter again on final day and fall to resounding defeat

Team USA have won the Ryder Cup after annihilating Europe at Whistling Straits.

The Americans gave Europe an uphill task after surging ahead in the first foursomes on Friday and stretched their lead even further in the Saturday action.

It left Padraig Harrington's men needing another Miracle of Medinah to overturn the 11-5 deficit going into singles play on Sunday afternoon.

Despite valiant efforts from former world number one Rory McIlroy and others, Europe simply could not drag themselves back into contention as the scoreboard once again turned scarlet.

Europe's Ian Poulter knew the writing was on the wall as he cited a "beyond monumental effort" was needed for his team to win while his opponent Tony Finau warned the USA would show no mercy.

The USA needed 14 and a half points to win the Ryder Cup and surpassed that milestone with ease with Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler setting the pace.

Others would follow with Europe only managing to win two of the day's 12 matches and suffering defeat in the 43rd edition of the tournament.

As things stand the USA are on track for a record win at the tournament.

And America has won back the trophy after losing it in 2018 at Le Golf National in Paris.
