USA vs England: Ellen White scores in her fifth successive World Cup game to set new record

England's Ellen White celebrates scoring ( REUTERS )

Ellen White became the first England player to score in five consecutive World Cup matches as she scored their crucial equaliser in their World Cup semi-final against USA.

White steered home a well-placed finish into the top corner to pull England level at 1-1 against the reigning world champions, cancelling out Christen Press’s headed opener.

The only game in which White hasn’t scored so far in the tournament was against Argentina, when she didn’t make an appearance, and her tally of six now takes her to the top of the Golden Boot charts level with Alex Morgan who extended USA's lead 10 minutes later.

Gary Lineker scored in four consecutive World Cup games spread across the 1986 and 1990 tournaments.

White also became England’s leading goalscorer at Women’s World Cups with her seventh in the competition.
