USA TODAY updates SEC power rankings after Week 3

And just like that we are already entering Week 4 of the college football season.

Through the first three weeks, Georgia finds itself sitting at 3-0 with one conference win vs Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs have looked just about perfect in every phase of the game, steamrolling opponents to a combined score of 148-23.

Joining Georgia as the elites out of the conference are Alabama and LSU.

LSU has the best win to date, taking down Texas in Austin, and has looked good enough other weeks as well.

Alabama faced its first test of the season, if you want to call it that, this past weekend against South Carolina in Columbia. It was looking like it was shaping up to be a good ball game, but eventually the Tide pulled away and won big.

Behind those three teams, it’s everybody else.

Here is how USA TODAY’S Tyler Horka ranked the top three teams in his SEC power rankings.

1. Alabama

2. Georgia

3. LSU

On Georgia, Horka had this to say.

Perhaps the best thing Georgia did this week didn’t occur on the football field. The Bulldogs’ 55-0 win over Arkansas State was impressive, but it paled in comparison to Georgia fans showing up in pink to support Arkansas State head coach Blake Anderson. Anderson’s wife, Wendy, died of cancer last month. The game against Georgia was the second game he’s coached since her passing.

Classy move, UGA. I bet there won’t be much pink inside Sanford Stadium when the Fighting Irish come to town this week, though. It’ll be a sea of red and black for that top-10 matchup.

Rounding out the top-five is Florida at No. 4 and Auburn at No. 5.

Florida escaped a close one against Kentucky on Saturday, but lost quarterback Feleipe Franks in the process. There is no telling how good Kyle Trask will be down the stretch, but there is a reason he was second string to Franks to begin with.
