Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has a big ultimate goal now that he’s about to jump divisions.
Weidman is moving up to light heavyweight for the first time, and he’s already talking about the potential for a fight against current champion Jon Jones. After all, Weidman figures, he once knocked off longtime 185-pound kingpin Anderson Silva against heavy odds – why couldn’t he do the same to Jones?
But first, Weidman (14-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has some work to do when he takes on the undefeated Dominick Reyes (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) in the UFC on ESPN 6 main event Friday in Boston. Weidman remains ranked as a middleweight, but a win over Reyes, who is No. 4 at light heavyweight, would certainly be a big way for Weidman to introduce himself to the list at 205 next week.
