USA TODAY releases SEC power rankings after LSU win – Georgia doesn’t budge

Prior to LSU’s win over Texas, Georgia could be found at No. 2 in almost every SEC power rankings. However, in the days after the Tigers beat the Longhorns on the road, Georgia has fallen to No. 3, being replaced by LSU, in a majority of website’s rankings.

Tyler Horka of USA TODAY, however, is not sold on moving Georgia down to No. 3 just because of LSU’s win. Horka found the Tiger’s road win impressive, of course, but drew attention to the fact that Texas replaced eight defensive starters this year from its 2018 team.

Georgia, which was ranked No. 2 last week, stayed put in that same spot as we enter Week 3 of the college football season.

Horka’s top-five:

1. Alabama

2. Georgia

3. LSU

4. Florida

5. Auburn

On Georgia, Horka had this to say about the Bulldogs:

The Bulldogs were Alabama’s biggest threat in 2018, and they remain so two weeks into 2019. Like Bama, Georgia took care of an inferior opponent in Week 2 – beating Murray State 63-17 – as it prepares for the tougher slate of games that lies ahead.
