USA TODAY NFL Power Rankings: Jets slide seven spots following primetime loss

After losing in embarrassing fashion on Monday Night Football, the Jets moved down seven spots in the latest edition of USA TODAY’s NFL power rankings.

Ranked No. 22 to begin the season, the Jets jumped up to No. 21 after their 17-16 loss to Buffalo in Week 1. Now, New York stands at No. 28 following its second loss of the season, a 23-3 defeat at the hands of the Browns.

The Jets lost their second quarterback of the week due to injury, but Trevor Siemian will not return this season. He’s out for the remainder of the year with an ankle injury, leaving Luke Falk as the starter while Sam Darnold recovers from mononucleosis.

After taking a 16-0 lead in their home opener, the Jets have been outscored 40-3. With Falk under center now, there’s not much hope for improvement.

New York’s Week 3 opponent, the New England Patriots, stayed in the No. 1 spot after dismantling the Miami Dolphins. As for the rest of the AFC East, the Bills moved up 10 spots to No. 10 after knocking off the New York Giants for their second consecutive win at MetLife Stadium. The Dolphins, meanwhile, remain at No. 32, as expected.

Filling out the top five are the Chiefs at No. 2, Cowboys at No. 3, Packers at No. 4 and Ravens at No. 5.
