USA TODAY NFL Power Rankings: Jets drop 3 spots

With another lifeless loss, this time at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Jets are 0-4. Following a 31-6 loss on the road, New York was bumped down three spots in the latest edition of USA TODAY’s NFL power rankings.

Despite rising two spots during their bye week, the Jets returned to normalcy, which is offensive ineptitude. In Sam Darnold’s absence, the offense is averaging fewer than 180 yards per game and just 14.3 yards per drive.

Now, the Jets stand at No. 30 with only two teams worse than them: the Washington Redskins, who just fired their head coach, and the Miami Dolphins, who are winless. Luckily for the Jets, they still have three games against these two teams as they attempt to reverse their poor performance thus far. New York’s schedule gets relatively easier as the season progresses, which lends it multiple opportunities to rise in the power rankings moving forward.

The Jets have a chance to move up in the rankings in Week 6 against the Cowboys, even though they’re underdogs at home. Darnold has been cleared for contact, Chris Herndon and Brandon Copeland could return from their suspensions and C.J. Mosley might finally recover from his groin injury.

As for the rest of the AFC East, the Patriots remain atop the power rankings after knocking off Washington. The Bills moved up three spots to No. 8 following their win over the Tennessee Titans to improve to 4-1. Meanwhile, the Dolphins stayed put at No. 32 during their bye week.

Rounding out the top five are the Saints at No. 2, Chiefs at No. 3, Lions at No. 4 and Packers at No. 5.
