Tornado warnings have been put in place for parts of Ohio Valley a as millions of Americans brace themselves for thunderstorms.
Up to four more twisters are expected to form in Oklahoma. One with winds of 86-110 mph weaved its way through on the town of Norman on Wednesday evening. However, emergency services said there were no injuries.
“Nobody’s hurt, thank goodness,” Lindsey Blake told the Fox25 News Channel. “A lot of our siding got ripped off and our garage got blown apart.”
She added: “You can just tell it kind of shot through the neighborhood."
The US National Weather Service said it uprooted trees and tore roofs from homes as it cut an eight mile path through the region.
It also warned that "potentially damaging winds and hail" could hit upstate New York.
"Other strong thunderstorms may impact parts of southern and eastern Texas in Louisiana," it warned.
Lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds were likely in the Dallas/Forth Worth area.
Meanwhile, there were two severe thunderstorm watches, one in Arkansas, and one between Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.
In the Midwest, the National Weather Service warned Americans could wake up to flooding.
“Heavy rain and already saturated ground conditions could lead to flash flooding this evening and flooding of rivers/streams into the weekend in parts of the Midwest this evening,” it said in a Twitter post.
