US Warns Its Citizens From Visiting Israel During Eurovision, Tel Aviv in Shock

Israeli security sources in Tel Aviv expressed their shock at a statement issued by the US State Department on Tuesday, warning citizens from traveling to Israel or the West Bank in the coming days, because of risks of acts of violence and terrorism.

The sources said the US warning was strange and outrageous, as it was based on far-fetched speculation.

“Terrorist groups may choose the anniversary, which coincides with the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv (May 14-18), or Nakba Day (May 15), to conduct violent protests or an attack. Security incidents can occur well beyond Gaza and its periphery and at any time,” the statement, published on the website of the US embassy in Tel Aviv, read.

“As security incidents, including rocket fire, often take place without warning, US citizens are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness,” the statement added.

The Israeli authorities have confirmed that they were taking unprecedented security measures to provide security and safety in Israeli towns in general, particularly in the Tel Aviv area and the center, with the holding of the Eurovision song contest.
