US citizens have been warned against travelling to the UK as a result of the country’s spiralling coronavirus cases.
America placed the UK on the country’s highest level travel guidance - "Level 4: Very High" – today and warned that even fully vaccinated travellers could find themselves at risk.
The news, which was issued by The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, comes as Boris Johnson announced “Freedom Day” in England.
The lifting of lockdown restrictions included an end to mask-wearing and social distancing laws.
Nightclubs were also reopened.
Americans were told to "avoid travel to the United Kingdom" but advised to make sure they are fully vaccinated if travel is essential.
"Because of the current situation in the United Kingdom, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading Covid-19 variants," the guidance added.
