US, UN Envoys to Yemen Hold Talks with Oman FM

Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi held separate talks in Muscat on Sunday with new United Nations envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg and the United States’ envoy to the war-torn country, Timothy Lenderking.

A Foreign Ministry statement said talks with Grundberg focused on “efforts exerted to achieve a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Yemen.”

“They also discussed easing the flow of humanitarian relief aid and forging a political settlement that meets the Yemeni people’s aspirations for peace, stability, national unity and reconstruction.”

Albusaidi and Lenderking tackled the latest developments in Yemen and efforts exerted to end the war.

Oman is playing the role of mediator in Yemen with the hopes of bridging the divide between the various warring parties.

In June, Albusaidi had told Asharq Al-Awsat that Muscat was coordinating with Saudi Arabia over the Yemeni crisis, expressing his country’s support to the Kingdom’s initiative to reach a ceasefire that it had announced at the beginning of the year.
