The United States has hit an all-time high for coronavirus infections in a single day as it recorded just over 100,000 on Friday.
The 100,233 recorded cases were up from the 91,000 reported on the previous day, according to a tally by Reuters.
It means the US has set a world record for the global pandemic as it surpassed India's 97,894 single-day cases reported back in September.
It is the fifth time in just ten days that the country exceeded its previous single-day record of 77,299 recorded in July. The new record indicates the US is now seeing more than one new case of coronavirus every second.
The US crossed an overall nine million cases on Friday according to the tally of publicly available data. That represents about 3 per cent of the population.

The new record comes as the country readies to elect its new president on November 3. The coronavirus pandemic, which has killed nearly 230,000 people in the US, has dominated the final stretch of the campaign.

On Friday, 16 US states reported their highest one-day coronavirus infections while 13 states were at record levels of hospitalised with coronavirus patients.
So far in October, 31 states have set records for increases in new cases, including five considered key in the presidential election, namely Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

For every 10,000 people in the United States, over 272 coronavirus cases have been reported and about seven people have died, according to another Reuters analysis.
In Europe there have been 127 cases and four deaths per 10,000 residents.
More than 1,000 people died of the virus on Thursday, marking the third time in October that such record has been passed in a single day.
The number of patients hospitalised with coronavirus has risen more than 50 per cent in October to 46,000, the highest figure since mid-August.
