US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the establishment of the new interim Government of National Unity in Libya, said a State Department statement on Monday.

Blinken spoke on Monday with Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh.

The officials emphasized the importance of ending the conflict in Libya through an inclusive political process, providing essential public services and ensuring free, fair and credible elections.

Meanwhile, German Ambassador to Libya Oliver Owcza held talks with deputy Presidential Council chief Abdullah al-Lafi.

They “shared views on the next steps of the political process, in particular the withdrawal of foreign forces, the reunification of divided institutions and the legal ground for national elections.”
