US Says Won’t Release Mideast Peace Plan Before Israeli Election

The United States will not release the long-delayed political portion of its Israeli-Palestinian peace plan before Israel's elections next month, White House Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt said on Wednesday.

"We have decided that we will not be releasing the peace vision (or parts of it) prior to the Israeli election," Greenblatt said on Twitter.

US President Donal Trump on Monday had said the plan might be revealed before the Israeli election.

Trump was asked during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France, if the entire plan could be released before the election. “No, of course not,” he replied, echoing a statement he made last week.

But he then told journalists that they “may see what the deal looks like before the election."

The peace plan, devised by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, has been rejected in advance by the Palestinians.
