US recognises six Virginia Native tribes after decades-long fight

Six Native American tribes in the US state of Virginia have been granted full federal recognition after a nearly twenty-year-long legal fight.

The declaration signed by President Donald Trump clears the way for the Chickahominy, Eastern Chickahominy, Upper Mattaponi, Rappahannock, Nansemond and Monacan tribes to receive healthcare, education and housing benefits.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher reports from Virginia.
