US Vice President Kamala Harris has reaffirmed Washington’s strong commitment to Tunisia, the White House said Tuesday.
Harris and Tunisian President Kais Saied discussed in a phone conversation the importance of the longstanding friendship between the two countries, it said in a statement.
She “reaffirmed the strong US commitment to Tunisia,” said the White House.
“The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of democratic institutions, the rule of law, and fighting corruption."
Harris underscored Washington’s sustained commitment to supporting Tunisia’s democracy and noted Tunisia’s economic reform commitments amidst challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
She also “voiced support for Tunisia’s discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and timely implementation of these measures.”
The statement added that the two leaders discussed the importance of continued security cooperation between the US and Tunisia.
