Photographs captured him waving as he arrived in the capital today.

Biden will be travelling to Glasgow to join other world leaders at the summit as around 30,000 delegates from more than 180 countries are expected to descend on the city to tackle the issue of climate change.

More than 100 world leaders will make the journey to attend the 12 day long conference.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson will officially open the World Leaders' Summit later today with leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.

It comes as long queues have caused delays for delegates attempting to enter the main COP26 venue.

Some on social media have said access to the SEC has taken up to two hours after more than 25,000 people descended on Scotland's largest city for the international climate talks.

Pictures on social media have shown hundreds waiting outside the main gates to the venue.

Delegates have to go through airport style security once inside.
