US President Joe Biden's first plans after Air Force One touches down in Scotland for COP26

US President Joe Biden is due to arrive in Scotland on Monday morning ahead of the COP26 climate change conference.

The White House leader will touch down in Edinburgh aboard Air Force One as the UN summit gets underway in Glasgow.

The plane will take off from Rome at 8:45am following the G20 conference and President Biden’s meeting with Pope Francis in Vatican City.

He will then disembark around 10.30am in time for a short meeting with Boris Johnson and UN secretary general Antoni Gutters.

Around 120 heads of state and government are set to attend the beginning of the COP26 talks at the SEC, Edinburgh Live reports.

It comes as countries are under pressure to increase action in the next decade to tackle dangerous warming.

The US President is to be based in Edinburgh for the duration of the talks.

The opening session of the talks gets underway at 12:00pm, with Biden scheduled to speak during the ‘leader’s address’ at 2:30pm.

At the ceremony, Johnson will say: "Humanity has long since run down the clock on climate change.

"It's one minute to midnight and we need to act now.

"If we don't get serious about climate change today, it will be too late for our children to do so tomorrow."

World leaders are expected to convene at the end of the summit's opening day for an exclusive reception dinner at Glasgow's historic Kelvingrove Art Gallery on Monday evening, hosted by Johnson.

The opening ceremony will also hear from naturalist and iconic broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, who is the Cop26 people's advocate.
