US President-elect Joe Biden makes Irish admission in emotional speech ahead of inauguration

Soon to be President of the United States Joe Biden has told how Irish poets are the best in the world during an emotional speech.

The 79-year-old will be sworn into office at 5pm on Wednesday evening Irish time, replacing Donald Trump.

And ahead of the inauguration, Mr Biden emotionally spoke of his use of Irish poets in his many speeches.

Speaking in Delaware ahead of his trip to DC, Mr Biden said: "My colleagues in the senate used to kid me about quoting Irish poets, they thought I did it because I was Irish, I didn't do it for that reason, I did it because they are the best poets in the world.

"James Joyce was said to have told a friend that when it comes his time to pass, when he dies he said Dublin will be written on my heart, well, excuse my emotion, but when I die, Delaware will be written on my heart."

Irish people all over the world will be glued to the President Elect's every word later today with some reference to his Irish culture expected.

And the new POTUS looks set to visit Ireland in June.

Mr Biden’s people are saying the new US President is getting ready to come to Ireland.

This follows the Irish Mirror’s reporting that senior sources in our Government have held high-level meetings already to prepare for a potential visit in the second week of June.

Now sources close to Mr Biden’s Irish cousins here, the Irish4Biden campaign group, are saying that the stopover on the way to the G7 Summit in Cornwall on June 11th is a runner.

Paul Allen, of Irish4Biden, said: “The G7 summit is taking place in a tiny village in Cornwall on June 11th, and my insiders in the Biden camp have led me to believe that they will stop off in Shannon Airport and refuel there before heading over to England, or may pop in on the way back.”
