US police officers tackle, punch and knee man 'for jaywalking'

Video has emerged of several US police officers tackling men to the ground for jaywalking.

Members of the Austin PD can be seen bringing down a man before using punches and kicks in order to handcuff him.

Rolando Ramiro, who filmed the incident, gave his account of what occurred before the video begins to The Free Thought Project.

“We were walking across the street, the sign said ‘do not walk,’ but lights were already turning yellow and streets were blocked off, so we kept walking,” Ramiro says.

“[Police] flashed their flashlights at us, asked us to show them our IDs. Matt and Jeremy said to f*** off.”

What can be seen in the video followed this encounter, with several police officers

Jeremy King, one of the men seen arrested in the video, later tweeted about the incident, saying that the prosecutor dismissed his case.

Austin police released a statement saying that the incident will be investigated without discussing details of the arrests.

"As is standard protocol, the Chain of Command will review the Response to Resistance and the incident to determine what led up to the events captured in the video and whether the officer's actions were in compliance with APD policy."

The three people arrested in the video spent the night in jail, with two of the men's charges being dropped.
